Same As it Ever Was

Steal a loaf of bread to feed your family
and you are sent to jail,
corrupt a nation’s politics
then you are deemed too big to fail.

Same as it ever was,
it all comes down to money
and once you have it
everything else is just funny.

You are free to make up
the rules as you go along,
a lack of conscience or regret
if what you do is wrong.

Life Liberty and equality
is an admirable notion
but in reality, it means nothing
to those void of emotions.

Nothing can knock them off
their formidable pedestal
even when the evidence
of corruption is irrefutable.

A vicious circle
that will never end
in a society where aspirations
are all pretend.
