Unnecessary Thoughts

I built a pretend world around me

and lost myself in it,

I thought the real one was

too unpredictable for me to commit.

Every day I sought an excuse

for me to withdraw

so I could delve deeper

into the dreams I saw.

For when I was asleep

I knew I could relax,

there was never a danger

of coming under attack.

Here I was protected from

any unnecessary thoughts

the very ones which invade my waking

hours and tie my mind up in knots.

A safe haven to where

I could always retreat

if my days got too much

for me to complete.
