Insignificance

A new morning has arrived

and with it, the optimism

of yesterday has died.

The hopes I might be okay

are on the ground scattered

and left to decay.

Dark thoughts fill my mind

leaving it impossible

for new dreams to find.

A sense of emptiness overwhelms me

while all around there is

nothing of value left to see.

Family and friends

only serve as an irritant

as I try to battle life’s insignificance.
