Modern City

Another Saturday night

in the big city,

pulsating with life and where

the stories are gritty.

All kinds of characters

emerge from the shadows

each with their own secrets

they are willing to expose.

Traffic jams and bright lights

a canvas for the inquisitive artist,

people who are dressed to kill

but are not the smartest.

Police sirens cut through

the party atmosphere

as the onlookers on sidewalks

loudly cheer.

Violence being committed

for no reason

leaves an innocent victim

prone and bleeding.

The city has created a generation

who are soulless

who call it fun when they

assault the homeless,

after which they throw

coins in their direction

as if that will cleanse them

of their predilection.
