There’s pity in their eyes
as they look at the eccentric fool,
whom when they were younger,
they thought was cool.
But now grown up
they see him as a caricature
even though they know nothing
of what he has had to endure.
To them he was always
a bit different
but as they got older,
he became insignificant.
He tries to act like
nothing has changed
but that only serves to
make him look more deranged.
For them the best solution
is avoidance
then at least they won’t
show their annoyance.
Their lives too busy
to ask if he is okay,
they don’t realise he is finding
it harder to make it through each day.
