A Dagger to my Heart

A dagger to my heart

was your parting gift to me,

leaving for another

you could not hide your glee.

Left standing there alone

I had never felt so exposed,

the fatal wound inflicted,

I crept back into the shadows.

I wondered what I had done

to deserve this fate,

were there signs I should

have seen before it got too late.

To think you took pleasure

from hurting me this much,

your skin must have crawled

from the feel of my touch.

Now desolated and broken

you never gave me a clue,

Smiling, you stuck it to me

and then bid me adieu.
