Mantlepiece

Your photograph

on the mantlepiece

is a constant reminder

that you are not here.

The past now seems

a distant fantasy

where life was something

to treasure and hold dear.

Now every day

when I see your face

I have to try hard to

remember the good times

when laughter

was heard in this place

and being happy

didn’t feel like a crime.

But some days the

memories are not enough

and I find myself feeling low

and struggling to cope,

I never thought that being lonely

would be this tough

but it gives you too many reasons

to live without hope.
