Nothing to Say

A song on the radio reminds

me of a certain time

when you had a gin and tonic

with one slice of lime.

We danced holding

each other tight

while I silently prayed

that this was the night

you would finally say the words

I wanted to hear

and then the path to our future

would become clear.

A wedding followed by

kids of our own

living in a dream house

with a lawn freshly sown.

The song ended

and you walked away,

silently you sipped your gin

you had nothing to say.
