Living in a house
that has lost its soul,
loneliness has been
designated your new role.
The sounds of silence
fill every room,
the curtains pulled
just add to the gloom.
A house once filled
with laughter and light
has retreated into darkness
and given up the fight.
Solitude has been welcomed
through its door
now that no one
wants to visit anymore.
Life has stood still in
this house that was once a home
now the rooms are left
for the departed to roam.

Yes.
A house is not a home
when you are on your own
in the house to roam.
Alone!

It’s a phase of life we all go through and I am hoping I embrace the alone when it’s my turn. I have older family who are changing the way they think as they do that, because they want their independence. I hope I remember their courage and make it mine.

This is why I would much rather live in a retirement community or even a group home or something if I was ever alone.
