Driving through the streets
of this ghost town,
it’s being like this
since all the
factories closed down.
For rent signs
on every second store,
while the ones still open
are involved in
their own price war.
The faded shop fronts
only serve as a reminder
of a towns history
when it was thriving
and full of sophistry.
I remember all
the noise and the bustle,
characters on corners
always looking for a hustle.
Now these streets
have all fallen silent,
the only exception is
when the struggle for
survival turns violent.
The lucky ones
packed up their belongings
and moved away,
while those left behind
had no choice but to stay.
