The Town

Wrapped up against the cold
staring into the river.
That same river where you said
you could forgive her.
Now so many years later
you realise she never cared.
Still you cling on to
memories that left you bare.
Time has passed
but you are still that young boy
who got thrown away
like a disused toy.
The feelings that you had
remain buried deep in your soul.
Every so often the surface
looking to be made whole.
You look across the river
at the town that gave you life.
The place you walked away from
when she became another’s wife.
